Physalis is one of the most exotic berries we can grow here in Sweden. It is also one of those berries where the taste between home-grown and store-bought berries is greatest. If you are not so fond of the store's physalis, we ask you to try growing it yourself before you close the door on this delicious piece.
We take and sort out the concepts of physalis, golden berry and gooseberry. Physalis is the genus to which the species golden berry and gooseberry belong. Golden berries have slightly smaller berries, a slightly smaller bush and slightly sweeter fruits than gooseberries.
Physalis needs to be grown indoors. It is important to keep the soil moist, so cover the seed to make it easier to maintain an even humidity. The seeds germinate slowly and can take up to 20 days to germinate. When they germinate, they like to have a temperature around 25-27 degrees and when they have germinated, they thrive better at 18-20 degrees. It thrives well in greenhouses, but can also be grown outdoors in a sunny, sheltered location. Do not put the plants out until the risk of frost is over.
