Spice up your garden with some beets. In this kit we've collected some lovely classics that are not only fun to grow, they taste fantastic. Chop them up and add an extra touch to your salad and you're sure to impress your guests.
If you grow in pots/boxes, remember to choose extra large containers so that the crops have room.

Detroit Golden

This beet, also called Yellow beet, is an old variety with good storage properties. Round or slightly oval in shape, it is a very tasty and sweet beet that becomes completely golden and wonderfully golden when cooked. Sow directly outdoors in a sunny location when the soil has reached at least 8 degrees. It can be harvested when they are a little smaller, about the size of a golf ball, but are just as good when they have grown larger. Just make sure to harvest them all before the first frost comes.

Long Orange

The ancestor and mother of carrots! This is the original carrot that gave rise to Berlicum and Flakker. It originates from 17th century Holland and is a long, narrow carrot with a deep red-orange color, which can grow to 30 cm long. Flavors are always a bit difficult to describe in words, but Ismahni who grew it says this: “I have never tasted a carrot that tastes so much like carrot!”.

Marike Radish

Is there anything that says summer salad more than radish? Marike is a round red radish with a lovely “radish taste”. It has a short development time of 5-6 weeks so sow it in batches during the season and harvest it gradually. If you want to extend the season, it is great to plant a final batch in a greenhouse or greenhouse in August/September depending on where in the country you grow.

Forno

The perfect storage beet, with a very sweet and mild taste. Cylindrical shape and therefore easy to slice. Forono produces well and evenly, thin to one decimeter between the plants for optimal development. Likes humus-rich and moist soil. For storage, the beets are harvested in September-October. Young tender leaves can be used and cooked like chard.
