Detroit Golden

This beetroot, also called Yellow beetroot, is an old variety with good storage properties. Round or slightly oval in shape, it is a very good and sweet beet that becomes completely golden and a lovely golden color when cooked. Sow directly in open ground in a sunny position when the soil has become at least 8 degrees. It can be advantageously harvested already when they are a little smaller, about the size of a golf ball, but are just as good when they have grown more. Just be sure to harvest them all before the first frost.
Grown by : Kjerstin & Andreas in Vånga (Kristianstad).

Long Orange

The ancestors and foremothers of carrots! This is the original carrot that gave rise to Berlicum and Flakker. It originates from 17th-century Holland and is a long, narrow carrot with a deep red-orange color, which can grow to 30 cm long. Flavors are always a bit difficult to describe in words, but Ismahni who grew it says this: "I have never tasted a carrot that tastes so much carrot!".
Cultivated by : Ismahni in Rimbo (Norrtälje).
Germination : at least 90%.

Marike Radish

Is there anything that says summer salad more than radish? Marike is a round red radish with a lovely "radish taste". It has a short development time of 5-6 weeks so sow it in batches during the season and harvest it as you go. If you want to extend the season, it is perfectly fine to put a last round in a greenhouse or drift bench in August/September, depending on where in the country you grow.
Grown by : Jonas & Sanna at Bossgården (Tidaholm).
Germination : at least 93%.

Chioggia

Striped fun heritage variety from the 19th century that perks up the most tired salad or human, take your pick. So-called polka dot, which is striped inside. Sweet and tasty like regular beets with a milder beet taste. The streaks disappear when it is cooked. Even the blast is good to eat. Early and hardy.
Grown by : Moa & Povilas at Tobyn permaculture, Arvika.
Germination in 2024 : at least 91%.
