Yellow onion - Laaer

Grow your own onions from seed. Sow the seeds about 1 cm deep in March – April. They need good heat to germinate, but then the plants should be cooler so they don't think it's summer and time to form a bulb (about 15 degrees is good). Harden off and put outside when the risk of frost is over. The plant wants to be firmly attached, but not deeper than it was in the pot. Ideally, plant the onion plant with the soil clod still. It can be a bit tricky because onions have quite thin and stringy roots. Wish the plant luck and be sure to weed because the onion grows poorly with competition.

If you want to grow your own onions directly, sow the seeds tightly in a 10 cm wide strip so that the bulbs stand and are crowded. They should be about 2 cm in diameter when they are finished. Dry the small onions and you have your own onion. For those of you who are extra cultivation geeks and want to tick off an odd cultivation hack.
